Original American cocktail hat by Betmar, dating to the 1940s. The hat is made from rust-colored velvet and trimmed with layered natural coque and feather plumes in brown and ivory. The brim edge is reinforced with internal metal wire for shape retention. There is no elastic. This type of tilt hat was designed to be worn at an angle and was popular for evening wear, stage, and formal social occasions.

About Betmar:
Betmar was founded in New York in 1933 by Betty Marks and quickly became one of the best-known American millinery brands of the mid-20th century. The brand was especially strong in cocktail and occasion hats throughout the 1940s and 1950s and is still active today under the Bollman Hat Company.

Fits an average adult head size.

The hat is in good condition. The velvet shows minimal discoloration. The feathers are intact. Occasionally a very small down plume may shed, consistent with natural feather trim.
