A 1940s style dress made of black wool crepe combined with rare original WWII escape map fabric (often described as silk, but likely rayon). These maps were issued to Allied pilots in case of emergency landings, to help them navigate and escape. The fabric shows sections of Germany, with different pieces used throughout the design.
The dress has an asymmetrical bodice with map fabric insert, grown-on sleeves, a wide waistband, made various map pieces (see last image), and a flared skirt with one side finished with a sash of escape map fabric over three flat pleats. The neckline is asymmetrical. It closes at the back with bronze buttons: one high at the neck with a keyhole opening below, additional buttons lower down, and a large snap fastener at the waist. The bodice has two darts at the waist.
