A 1950s novelty cardigan by Ruth Chagnon, labeled Delray Beach – Nantucket. Made from cashmere wool, this cardigan has a classic round neckline, long sleeves and a button-front closure. The buttons are novelty domed buttons, transparent with small golfer figures inside.
The button placket is reinforced on the inside for added stability and durability.
The back features a detailed novelty scene with felt appliqués and chain stitch embroidery, depicting a golfer with the embroidered text “Oh No!”. The appliqué work is neatly applied and well balanced, typical of mid-century novelty knitwear. This is a rare and highly collectible example of 1950s novelty knitwear, valued for its detailed appliqué work and original novelty buttons.
