1940s/50s Straw Half Hat With Black Velvet Trim

Late 1940s to early 1950s half hat made from ivory woven straw or raffia. The hat has a sculptural, asymmetrical shape with a curved front and is finished with black velvet trim and a flat velvet bow at the back. Wire inside the edge allows the shape to be adjusted slightly. A thin elastic strap helps to hold the hat in place.
The black velvet band inside is attached to the hat at the ends only.

In good vintage condition with light signs of age. There are some small darker marks and slightly uneven areas in the ivory straw. The interior lining has some creasing and wear. The elastic strap has lost its stretch and may need replacing.
