Black crepe dress from the 1940s with small velvet appliqués at the bodice front and back. The dress has a square neckline with soft pleating running from the neckline toward the shoulders and sleeves. The waist has gathered draping panels that frame a smooth center front section. The skirt is lightly flared.
It closes at the back with fabric-covered buttons and snap closures down to the waist. There is no zipper. The sleeves are long with buttoned cuffs. Shoulder padding is present, typical for the period. The fabric has a slight natural give.
There is a small repair near the waist pleating, visible on close inspection (see photo).
